Stormy New York

Apparently there was some exciting weather in my old stomping grounds back East earlier today (sorry, I’m a huge meteorology nerd), including a possible tornado…

Check this sweet lightning near the Statue of Liberty:

Plus a confirmed tornado that came back from the 70′s to haunt a careless Time Magazine editor.

Below are some of my own rainy day NYC shots, albeit on less dramatic rainy days.

I’ve always thought the worst thing about rain in New York are all the umbrellas.  Even though they always seem to look good in pictures, they also have a tendency to poke tall people like me in the eye on crowded sidewalks.

Smith’s Bar, NYC

As much as Times Square has changed over the years (some say for better, others for worse) there still remains a few vestiges of the past like Smith’s Bar at the corner of 44th & 8th on the cusp of Times Square and Hell’s Kitchen.

Although one intrepid blogger reports the interior has undergone some big changes since my last visit, the exterior is still classic, sporting the best dive bar neon in the neighborhood since my favorite Times Square bar, McHale’s, met the wrecking ball a few years ago.
